The Upper Black Forest is the highest and the most snow-sure part. Titisee and Schluchsee sit at around 850 and 930 metres with the Feldberg above them — and in winter this is the one place in the Black Forest with a dependable ski season.

- How reliable is snow on the Feldberg?
- As reliable as the Black Forest gets: in a normal winter the lifts run from late December to early March. In the valleys below, far less so.
- Can you swim in the Titisee?
- Yes, from about June. It is shallow and warms faster than the deeper Schluchsee — and is correspondingly busier in summer.
- Titisee or Schluchsee?
- Titisee for facilities and short distances, Schluchsee for quiet and water sport. Twenty minutes apart by car.
