Region in the Black Forest
Holiday apartment in the Black Forest
The Black Forest runs 160 kilometres and is a different holiday at each end: thermal baths in the north, waterfalls in the middle, the Feldberg in the south. We let apartments rather than rooms — with a kitchen, your own door, and the quiet a hotel corridor does not have.
Worth knowing
- 160 km from Pforzheim to Waldshut, with over 6,000 km of waymarked paths
- The Feldberg, at 1,493 m, is Germany's highest peak outside the Alps
- A national park since 2014, roughly 10,000 hectares between Baden-Baden and Freudenstadt
- Two spa towns — Baden-Baden and Bad Wildbad — both in use since Roman times
Best for: Getting your bearings when the region is settled and the town is not.

Common questions
- Which part of the Black Forest suits us?
- For thermal baths and a short drive from Frankfurt, the north around Baden-Baden and Bad Wildbad. For lakes and winter sport, the Hochschwarzwald around Titisee and the Feldberg. For half-timbered towns, the Kinzig valley. North to south is a good two hours' drive — the Black Forest is a landscape, not a place.
- Is an apartment worth it over a hotel?
- From about three nights, almost always. A kitchen saves breakfast out, and in the Black Forest the distance between where you sleep and where you eat is often longer in the evening than it looks on a map. Our cost comparison works out what that means for your stay.
- When is it quietest?
- Early November to mid-December, and the weeks after Easter. The paths are clear, the baths are too, and prices sit below the summer months.
