Holiday apartment energy costs

The mistake is not the price per kilowatt-hour, it is the denominator. Annual energy divided by 365 is what a place costs per day as a home. A holiday apartment is not occupied 365 days, so the cost has to land on the nights you actually sold — at 45 per cent occupancy that is more than double. The empty months are worked out separately, because that is the figure you can act on: an apartment held at frost protection through February keeps burning gas and has no guest to carry it. How much more your guests use is your number, not ours — nobody pays their own heating bill on holiday, but a figure we invented would be one you could not check against your own meter readings. With no nights sold we give no per-night figure at all: the denominator is the question, and dividing by 365 would answer a different one.
